The Yangon Airport terminal expansion represents CNA's most ambitious airport project to date. CNA's role in this project as M&E Prime Contractor involves designing, supplying, installing and commissioning 20 engineering systems for the new airport terminal building at the Yangon International Airport. CNA's contract, valued at approximately US$9 million, covers vital engineering systems such as the baggage handling system, flight information display system and aircraft docking guidance system.
Civil works expansion of the existing 11,000m 2 two-storey terminal building commenced in January 2005. The airport is expected to be completed by third quarter of 2006.
An overall extension of 144metres of the original building envelope, which will increase the built up area to approximately 30,000m 2, will include a new VIP building and departure halls that can cater for a 2.7 million passenger annual capacity.
Apart from refurbishing the existing international arrival terminal building, the extended building is equipped with an energy efficient design that boasts of sunshades and glass technology to reduce glare and heat gain into the terminal. In addition, a new power house to upgrade the HT (high tension) power supply will also help to improve the reliability of the airport electrical supply and the operational flexibility as well as the expansion capability.
The winning of this contract marks CNA's first foray into Myanmar and further seals our status as an established player in the airport industry, especially in applying innovative design and modern technology to maximise efficiency and minimise costs, which is one of the chief considerations for the Myanmar government. |
