Complementing KKH's highly sophisticated medical facilities is an equally advanced Intelligent Building Management System (IBMS) installed by CNA. The IBMS integrates 17 sub-systems and provides round-the-clock monitoring and control of critical services including the Nurse Call System, Integrated Security System, Medical Gas System and Automatic Guided Vehicle System (AGVS). The AGVS, which is an automatic unmanned system to transport food, medical supplies and other essentials throughout the hospital, has improved the hospital's productivity and efficiency.
The integration of the sub-systems is provided through open client-server architecture to eliminate dependence on the system suppliers and allow users to easily add, modify and upgrade the systems. With the SIRIUS 7000 IBMS, these systems are operated via one of three operator client workstations on the common 100BaseT Ethernet IBMS network. Monitoring and control of facilities are also available through the hospital Office Automation Network.
The IBMS is responsible for maintaining the environmental integrity of many critical environments within KKH: operating theatres, isolation suites, intensive care units, diagnostic imaging rooms, blood banking and microbiology laboratories. The IBMS provides precision control of temperature, humidity, room pressure and air quality in many of these critical environments to safeguard the health of both patients and hospital staff and create a conducive environment for clinical, paraclinical and paramedical services.
In spite of the complex medical conditions and the sheer numbers of patients KKH treats daily, patients who come through its doors are constantly reminded that they are children or women first, and patients second. It is this belief in personalised patient-centred care, together with its medical expertise, that has created a tradition of medical excellence at KKH. And this fundamental principle still holds true to this day.
